Toccoa commission sets 2025 property tax rate at 5.20 mills, rolling back prior increase
The unanimous vote lowers the millage rate by 0.80 mills for the FY2026 budget, after the city's FY2025 audit showed an earlier increase had pushed up property tax revenue.

What this means now
The story
Toccoa's FY2025 budget included a proposed 0.80 mill increase in the property tax rate, projected to add $217,400 in tax revenue.
The city's audit for the year ended June 30, 2025 found that property taxes rose due to the higher millage rate. The city's governmental funds ended the year with a combined fund balance of $10,889,864, up $1,107,396, after several budget amendments were adopted by the commission during the year.
The same audit reports that the millage rate was then decreased by 0.80 mills, a change incorporated into the FY2026 budget. That budget calls for no property tax millage increase and no increases in water, sewer, natural gas or solid waste utility rates.
After a public hearing scheduled for Aug. 11, 2025, the Toccoa City Commission voted unanimously on Aug. 25, 2025 to approve the 2025 tax millage rate at 5.20 mills.
