The story

The Habersham County Board of Commissioners took up an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Demorest for county emergency services to provide fire protection. On Oct. 20, 2025, commissioners voted 5-0 to approve the agreement, with the county paying $655,396 per year, offset by credits of $90,000 per year and $30,000 per year.

The agreement also covered the City's real property and improvements at the Demorest Fire Department facility on Ivy Street, a 1.0-acre site.
