October 9, 2025: River Street paving as part of Habersham County paving package

What happens next

Paving was expected to begin in Habersham the week after the October 9, 2025 meeting, once the pipe crossing work is done.

The story

In July 2025, the Town Council's agenda listed an LMIG project award and pipe bid. Habersham County awarded the paving bid to Pittman Construction, and town records showed the town's share of the cost at about $74,484.50 to widen and pave River Street from the three-way stop in town to the curve near Hickory Nut, which would require additional SPLOST funds from the town.

By October 2025, a councilperson told the council that River Street paving had been pushed off because the pipe crossing needed to be completed first, and that paving would begin in Habersham the following week.
