In early 2025 the city moved to fund the project through a state grant: Thomas and Hutton engineers held a kickoff meeting on the grant application January 6, the city gave notice it was considering applying to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a Community Development Block Grant, and a public hearing on the grant application was held February 27 with no public comments received.
