The story

The Habersham County landfill stopped accepting construction and demolition debris as of February 29, 2024, because of capacity concerns, the Board of Commissioners was told.

At a February 13, 2025 meeting, the board discussed long-term capacity planning, including whether the county should purchase land for a new landfill or build a transfer station where residents could dispose of municipal solid waste. A presentation to the board put the landfill's remaining life at about 19.0 years as of July 26, 2024.
