Demorest council approves mandated PTSD coverage for first responders

The city will carry a Georgia First Responder PTSD insurance program covering its police, fire and EMS staff.

The story

The Demorest City Council placed the GMA/GIRMA Georgia First Responder PTSD Program on its February 4, 2025 work session and regular session agendas for discussion and consideration.

At the work session, the mayor and council said they wanted to move forward with the mandated coverage and a coverage limit, and asked Mr. Musselwhite to research the program further and raise the limit if he saw fit. Coverage amounts discussed ranged from $3,000 to $15,000, with a figure of $1,871 also noted.

In the regular session that followed, the council unanimously approved, 3-0, a motion to move forward with the mandated coverage.
