Clarkesville council approves ordinance restricting camping and other uses of public property

The story

At a May 5, 2025 work session, Clarkesville City Council discussed a package of proposed ordinances covering uniform municipal court rules, use of public property, unauthorized use of municipal water services, dog leash requirements and a new lightning ordinance. Council held general discussion on all of them, with some minor changes suggested.

Among the proposals was a new Chapter 43 ordinance on public property and use of public spaces, which would make it unlawful to camp on public property "unless otherwise specifically authorized by permit or ordinance."
