Clarkesville's council was asked to approve an intergovernmental agreement with Habersham County to regulate and implement a Floating Homestead Local Option Sales Tax, or FLOST. The proposed resolution called for a one percent tax running five years, from January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2031.
On July 13, 2026, the Mayor and City Council voted 5-0 to approve the Habersham County FLOST Intergovernmental Agreement, on a motion from Council Member Leigh Johnston.
