The story
In February 2025, engineer Lamar Rogers of Turnipseed Engineers presented Town Council with suggestions to improve and maintain the water system's efficiency, recommending a SCADA system. The council discussed the recommendation again the following month.
Over the following months the town gathered SCADA quotes. In April, three bids came in: Global Logic at $39,922.90, Mission Communicating at $30,485.40 and Zeil Technology at $69,300. In July, council members said SCADA should be installed to monitor tanks around the clock and save on employee overtime, and the mayor said she would bring quotes to the next meeting. In August, a representative from ZILE Technology presented a quote for the monitoring and control system.
In October 2025, council first tabled a Master Meter Upgrade Project described as including meter replacement and SCADA integration, with 102 meters already ordered and about 740 still needing to be changed over. A week later, at a called meeting, council voted unanimously to move forward with the Master Meter Project. By December, the meter change-out work was reported about halfway done.
In March 2026, the council reported that a grant request to GEFA for Helene relief had been approved, covering the SCADA project and storage tanks.
