Lavonia’s trash-service costs were set to rise, but city-rate decision remains unclear

Lavonia’s solid-waste service provided by Waste Management was reported to be increasing effective March 1, 2024 under the company’s annual contract adjustment, City Manager Charles Cawthon told the City Council at its Feb. 5, 2024 meeting. Cawthon said he would send council members proposed changes to the city’s rates, leaving the public record from that meeting without a documented decision on what residents would ultimately be charged.
