Lavonia mayor says county will end higher tax treatment for city property owners

Lavonia Mayor Courtney Umbehant told the City Council on Aug. 5, 2024, that Franklin County commissioners had voted to align millage-rate treatment for property owners inside the county’s five cities with that of residents in unincorporated areas. The mayor’s report, recorded in Lavonia council minutes, described a potentially consequential change for county-tax bills in Lavonia, Canon, Carnesville, Franklin Springs and Royston.
