The story
County staff asked the Board of Commissioners to authorize the chairman to sign documents binding Habersham County to a state and local memorandum of understanding for a new round of national opioid settlements, this time with so-called "third wave" manufacturers Alvogen, Amneal, Apotex, Hikma, Indivior, Viatris (Mylan), Sun Pharmaceutical and Zydus.
Under the settlement terms in the county's packet, 75% of opioid funds go to the state and 25% to participating local governments, with at least 9.45% earmarked for the county sheriff, at least 2% for the county hospital and at least 1% for the school district; no less than 70% of the money is required to go toward future opioid abatement efforts.
