Habersham’s tax-digest work remains stalled by state-side software problems

Habersham County had resolved its own assessment-software problems by an Aug. 27, 2025, special-called Board of Commissioners meeting, County Manager said, but state-side programming tied to changes in House Bill 581 was still holding up work needed for the county’s FY 2026 tax digest. County management’s August account drew a line between work Habersham could complete locally and programming it said remained unresolved on the state side. The Tax Assessors Office was central to the earlier conversion work, and a commissioner’s comments indicated that office was still encountering software difficulties. Commissioners, meanwhile, were weighing budget questions against estimated revenue rather than a completed digest; the meeting records do not show a competing explanation for the delay or a commission vote on the software problem.

What is documented is partial progress, not a completed fix. County officials said county-side issues had been resolved as of Aug. 27, while state-side programming associated with House Bill 581 continued. The commission records show discussion of the delay in June and the continuing concern in August, but do not show that Habersham received its tax digest, that the state-side programming was repaired, or that commissioners took a vote to resolve the matter. No resolution date for the state-side problems is documented.
