In January 2025 the City of Clarkesville offered Habersham County $250,000 to buy the old courthouse property. The county's development authority separately urged the Board of Commissioners to demolish the courthouse, but commissioners had already voted against tearing it down at a special called meeting in December.
On January 27 the Board of Commissioners took public comment on a possible sale to the city, noting Clarkesville's $250,000 offer alongside a county figure in the $1.2 million to $1.4 million range.
By mid-February, the development authority's minutes reported the county had countered Clarkesville's offer at $1 million and the city had accepted.
