County staff told commissioners that fire crews had been dispatched to Apple Mountain Resort (the Holiday Inn Resort) more than 60 times in a year for fire alarm activations, and proposed creating a new fire alarm ordinance similar to those in other counties.
The proposal, discussed again later in January, would add a new Article III, "Fire Alarms," to Chapter 30 of the county code, covering alarm systems, false alarms and excessive alarm responses, with a fine of up to $1,000 per violation.
The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the first reading of the ordinance amendment on January 27, 2025, by a 5-0 vote.
