Habersham airport safety and runway projects remain unresolved four years after commission request

More than four years after Habersham County’s Airport Commission was asked to recommend advancing runway-safety and runway-overlay work, the documented record still shows only a January 10, 2022 discussion—not a commission recommendation, county authorization or funding application. The proposal concerned preparing the airport’s ROFA project and runway overlay project for the next stages of review.

The distinction matters because the request was an early gateway to potential airport work, not permission to build. Runway safety-area work and pavement overlay planning can affect how the county maintains and improves airport infrastructure, but the consultant described Board of Commissioners approval as the step that would precede applications for Federal Aviation Administration funding.
