Habersham considers restricting flame-powered water lanterns in public waterways

Habersham County officials in 2025 were scheduled to consider a proposed ordinance that would make it unlawful for people or businesses to release, or cause the release of, flame-powered floating water lanterns in the county’s public waterways, lakes, ponds, streams and rivers. The measure was presented as draft language, and its own terms say it would take effect only after final adoption by the Board of Commissioners.
