Habersham commissioners revisit delayed District 5 appointment

Habersham County’s Board of Commissioners placed Teri Newsome’s District 5 appointment on its regular-meeting agenda for Nov. 18, 2021, returning a delayed appointment question to the board after it had been pushed out of the summer schedule. The agenda identifies Newsome as the person under consideration, but it records an item for action rather than an action already taken.

The matter concerns a District 5 position whose listed term had expired June 30, 2021, leaving commissioners to decide whether and how to fill it. What remains unconfirmed is decisive: the Nov. 18 agenda contains no vote record, meeting minutes, appointment notice, or other official disposition showing that Newsome was appointed, rejected, postponed again, or replaced by another action. The June materials refer to a Nov. 15 endpoint for the deferral, while the later agenda identifies Nov. 18 as the meeting at which consideration was scheduled.

The next public step is locating the Board of Commissioners’ Nov. 18 meeting minutes or another official outcome document from that meeting. Until then, residents cannot tell from the agenda alone whether commissioners filled the District 5 position with Newsome, deferred the matter again, declined the appointment, or took some other action.
