The story
In February 2025 the Habersham County Airport Commission reviewed a GDOT statewide comparison showing the county was charging $25 per month for tie-downs while the state average was $44.15 per month.
The following month the commission discussed the FY2026 budget and fee schedule and raised the issue of requiring a lease agreement for annual tie-down customers, noting the county shouldn't take annual payments without one.
A proposed tie-down lease agreement was then tabled repeatedly by the Airport Commission over the next several months — in April, May, September and October 2025, and again in November 2025 when it was pushed to January 2026 pending a decision on new t-hangars.
In January 2026 the commission tabled a new tie-down lease agreement, application and fee schedule that included a $25 monthly fee, a $50 one-time processing fee and a $1 million liability coverage requirement, again pending the t-hangar decision. The commission then approved additional tie-down regulations and an application process in February 2026, including a $50 per-application administrative fee.
