Habersham airport panel leaves Forest Service land-use agreement unresolved

The Habersham County Airport Commission tabled a proposed land-use agreement with the U.S. Forest Service at its April 15, 2025 meeting, then put the matter back before commissioners for consideration on the May 13 agenda. The later agenda identifies the proposal as having been tabled from the April meeting, but does not record what happened after it returned.

The unresolved agreement matters because it concerns land use connected to Habersham County’s airport and could affect how that land is managed or used. Yet the public agendas do not identify the property, spell out the agreement’s terms, or describe any financial or operational consequences, leaving residents without a documented account of what a decision would mean.

The proposal has surfaced in commission business before. Tabling the agreement was a completed procedural action; scheduling it again for May consideration was another documented step. Approval, amendment, rejection and implementation are not established. The next meaningful public step is a May 13 meeting record or a later Airport Commission agenda or set of minutes showing whether commissioners acted on the U.S. Forest Service land-use agreement. Until such a record is published, it remains undecided in the documented record whether the proposal was adopted, revised, rejected or deferred again.
