The story
In early February, Habersham County Board of Education members began discussing renewal of the district's education special purpose local option sales tax, known as ESPLOST.
On February 9, the board unanimously approved a resolution calling for a May 2026 election to renew the tax, ESPLOST 7, and discussed placing the referendum on the May 19, 2026 ballot.
The board continued discussing ESPLOST through late February and into March, when members thanked Partnership Habersham for preparing materials to inform the public about the tax ahead of the May 19 vote.
On June 15, the board unanimously approved a resolution declaring the results of the May 19, 2026 sales and use tax election.
