Habersham Authorized $12 Million Fiber Grant Bid, but Award and Buildout Remain Unconfirmed

Habersham County commissioners unanimously authorized the county manager on Aug. 16, 2021, to sign a $12,013,611 National Telecommunications and Information Administration Broadband Infrastructure Program application with Windstream Kinetic for a proposed fiber expansion serving more than 5,000 underserved homes and businesses. The county’s recorded action cleared the way for an application; it did not confirm that federal money was awarded or that fiber was installed.
