Habersham Airport Commission’s public-comment rules remain unresolved after repeated delays

Habersham County’s Airport Commission was scheduled to take up a proposed public-comment policy on July 11, 2022, after unanimously postponing the question at its June meeting. But the July agenda records only that consideration and adoption were planned; it does not show whether commissioners adopted, amended or again tabled the rules.

The unresolved policy matters because it concerns how residents may address the commission that oversees the county airport facility. When the item appeared on the May 9 agenda, members suggested rewording it and unanimously postponed the vote until June; on June 6, they unanimously moved it again, this time to July.

Vaughn’s March presentation supplied a county-board policy as a possible model, while the Airport Commission retained responsibility for deciding whether to adopt a policy for its own meetings. The May meeting record attributes the delay to commissioners’ suggestion that the proposal be reworded. The minutes document unanimous votes to postpone, but do not identify competing public positions, spell out the proposed revisions or preserve a final version of the policy.

The confirmed actions were the April, May and June postponements, with the latter two delays recorded as unanimous votes. The May, June and July agendas show proposed consideration dates, not final actions. The July 11 listing described the policy as tabled from June 6, but it is not an official item-result record and cannot establish adoption.
