Habersham approves electronics recycling deal, but residents still lack a drop-off site

Habersham County commissioners unanimously approved a one-year agreement with Cornelia-based Fusion Green Technology on Dec. 16, 2024, setting up a potential local electronics-recycling collection program. The action was completed on a 5-0 vote, but the meeting minutes do not identify a collection address, operating schedule or date when residents can begin using the service.

The agreement could give county residents another way to dispose of unwanted battery-powered and corded appliances instead of sending them to the landfill. It also assigns financial and operational responsibilities: Fusion Green Technology is to pay the county according to the weight and type of electronics collected, while the county is to provide space for the company’s lockable, double-door collection containers. Later that day, commissioners moved beyond the scheduled proposal and approved the agreement unanimously. The vote established the county’s commitment to provide collection space and the company’s payment obligation, but it did not itself establish that a site had been selected, containers installed or collections begun.

County commissioners approved the arrangement as a local recycling option under which the county supplies space and Fusion Green Technology supplies its collection containers and pays based on the material collected. The agreement excludes tube televisions, narrowing what residents could bring if the program opens. The Commission vote and the one-year agreement are completed actions, not a pending proposal.
