Franklin County’s last documented move on a proposed intent to opt out of the homestead exemption was a Feb. 11, 2025 agenda listing for a public hearing. The listing shows the tax-related question was again set for public consideration, but it does not say whether the hearing occurred or whether county officials acted afterward.
The unanswered question matters across Franklin County because homestead-exemption policy concerns residents’ taxes. A public-hearing listing can alert residents and create an opportunity to learn about or respond to a proposal; it does not, by itself, change a tax policy or establish that an opt-out took effect.
The proposal first appeared in a county agenda as a Jan. 14, 2025 public hearing on intent to opt out of the homestead exemption. Rather than documenting a resulting action, a Feb. 6 agenda again listed the same hearing, followed by another Feb. 11 listing. Those repeated listings show continuing public consideration of the proposal, but they do not explain whether an earlier hearing was held, postponed or otherwise resolved.

What is documented is limited to three scheduled-hearing listings between Jan. 14 and Feb. 11, 2025. What remains unconfirmed is more consequential: whether any of the hearings took place, whether the county voted or adopted a resolution, whether a measure was amended, and whether any homestead-exemption policy was implemented. The agenda listings identify proposed consideration, not a completed county action.
No later official action or future public step is documented after the Feb. 11 listing. The next meaningful record would be a newly scheduled hearing or a county document showing what happened to the proposal, such as a decision, resolution or implementation notice.
