Franklin County Tower Work Advances, but Royston Installation Is Still on Hold

Franklin County officials reported at the Board of Commissioners’ March 31 work session that the tower at Highway 326 was up and had electricity, and that a 911 tower was also up. In the same update, staff said installation work for a tower in the City of Royston had not begun because of issues that were not identified.

The report marks a mixed checkpoint for infrastructure connected to county public safety. While the Highway 326 site has reached a visible operational milestone with power available, Royston remains the location specifically described as unfinished, leaving residents without a public timetable for when that installation might move from delivered equipment to construction.

By the time of the March work session, equipment, generators and fuel tanks associated with the Royston work had been delivered or set up, according to the county’s update. That preparation had not led to installation there: staff said the site was still waiting to begin because of unspecified issues. Meanwhile, the county reported the Highway 326 tower standing with electrical service and separately reported that a 911 tower was up.

County staff provided the progress report to commissioners, distinguishing between the completed Highway 326 work and the delayed Royston installation. The City of Royston is the named location affected by the delay, but the meeting record does not attribute a position to city officials, identify a contractor’s role, or say which party must resolve the problem. It also does not say where the separately referenced 911 tower is located.
