The story
Georgia's Environmental Protection Division drafted an air quality permit for Apex Site Solutions LLC to construct and operate diesel-fired emergency generators, support emergency engines and emergency fire pumps at 70 Lower Woolsey Road in Hampton, in Henry County, at what the notice describes as a computer processing and data preparation and processing facility. The draft caps generator use at 200 hours a year for emergencies, 100 hours a year for maintenance and testing, and 50 hours a year for non-emergency use, with nitrogen oxide emissions capped at 249.0 tons per any 12-month period.
On May 12, 2026, EPD's Air Protection Branch recommended that Permit No. 7374-151-0069-E-01-0 be issued to Apex Site Solutions for construction and operation of the emergency generators and support emergency engines at the facility. The accompanying draft permit set annual limits for the project, including 249.0 tons of nitrogen oxides, along with limits on particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds and hazardous air pollutants.
EPD's Air Protection Branch issued a further notice on October 23, 2026, covering a major source permit for the data center's construction and operation with diesel-fired emergency generators.
