The story
At a June 2, 2026 work session, Demorest City Council took up a resolution to sell common stock the city holds with Principal Financial. Mr. Mitchell had prepared both a letter authorizing the sale of the shares and a resolution approving the transaction.
Later that day, the resolution appeared on the regular council meeting agenda. The council then voted 4-0 to approve the sale of the common stock and authorized Mr. Musselwhite to sign the letter.
