The story
After Aetna coverage ended, the Demorest City Council agreed in a January 2025 work session to switch providers: Level Health Gold for health insurance, Lincoln for vision, dental, life, short-term and long-term disability, and Apex Insurance Agency for workers compensation. The council approved the contracts 4-0 at its regular session the same night.
A year later, at a January 2026 work session, staff recommended staying with Apex for workers comp, noting the premium had dropped from $51,789 to $37,353, excluding the fire department. The council approved renewing the Apex workers comp policy at $37,353 by a 4-0 vote.
In February 2026, staff sought approval to renew Level Health Gold for 2026 health coverage. The council approved the health insurance renewal with Level Health Gold, 4-0.
