Demorest approved $10,000 test for Garrison Road well, but its return to service remains unknown

Demorest City Council unanimously approved hiring MPE Services to test the Garrison Road well system for $10,000 during its July 2, 2024 regular session, a step intended to clarify the well’s condition before any possible return to service. The signed minutes record a 4-0 vote and say that any added fees would have to be brought back to council, but they do not report whether the test was later completed or what results it produced.

That gap matters because the pump test was the city’s documented next step in determining whether the Garrison Road well would need further work. Approval to investigate is not the same as a completed test, repair, permit or operating well. Without findings in the minutes, residents cannot tell from this record whether the city advanced beyond the initial evaluation or whether the well can contribute to Demorest’s water service.

The matter reached council as staff considered two contractor quotes and recommended testing the well system.
