Demorest leaves key PTSD benefit terms unresolved for police and fire responders

Demorest City Council has signaled that it wants to move forward with state-mandated post-traumatic stress disorder coverage for the city’s police and fire responders, but a central benefit decision—and proof that the coverage was adopted—remain unresolved in the public record. At a Feb. 4, 2025 work session, Chief Scheuerer presented the Georgia Municipal Association’s GIRMA Georgia First Responder PTSD Program Proposal, and council members indicated support for the required lifetime diagnosis benefit while seeking more research on whether to provide a higher amount.
