Demorest authorizes work on county lease for building inspections after inspector withdraws
Demorest City Council unanimously voted 4–0 on Jan. 6 to let the city manager and city attorney work with the county on drafting a lease for inspection and plan-review services. The action came after David Turpin, the person the city had initially expected to handle inspections, withdrew because of health reasons.

The next public sign of progress would be a council agenda item, minutes or proposed agreement that spells out the county services and their terms. Until then, it remains undecided whether Demorest will finalize the county option, select another provider or reach a different solution for inspection and plan-review work.
