Demorest considers pricier backup landfill route for wastewater solids

Demorest City Council considered a proposal April 1, 2025, to send dewatered solids from the city’s wastewater-treatment facility to the Waste Management Landfill in Homer when the Habersham County landfill cannot take the material. Staff said interruptions in access to the county landfill had at times allowed solids to accumulate at the treatment plant and estimated that the backup route would add about $10,000 to $15,000 to the disposal budget line.
