Demorest approves facilities lease but removes city gym from deal

Demorest City Council unanimously approved a facilities lease Jan. 2, 2024, but only after removing the city gymnasium from the agreement. The 4–0 vote left the park as part of the council’s recorded lease action while excluding the gym, a public recreation space that had been discussed alongside the park earlier that day.

That distinction matters for residents, local groups and city employees who may rely on public recreation facilities. Council approved a lease affecting city facilities, but its action did not place the gym under that lease; the record therefore does not establish how the approved park arrangement will work day to day or whether gym access will be addressed through another agreement or policy.
