Cornelia commission approves charter amendment removing millage rate cap

On February 10, 2026 the Cornelia City Commission voted 4-0 to approve an amendment to Article V, Section 5.11 of the City Charter removing the city's 20-mill cap on its property tax rate. Commissioners said removing the cap would help the city get a better bond rating for the Amphitheater Project and the Wastewater Plant Project. The commission also approved, 4-0, a resolution to adopt the amendment.
