The Cornelia City Commission voted 4-0 on July 7, 2026 to approve the mayor signing a resolution and intergovernmental agreement with Habersham County for a Floating Local Option Sales Tax referendum.
A later city manager's report said Partnership Habersham was getting ready to launch a campaign for the tax, describing it as a Property Tax Reduction Local Option Sales Tax that is projected to allow roughly a 4 mill reduction in the city's millage rate.
